Reeling In Russia: An American Angler In Russia
In the summer of 1996, award-winning journalist Fen Montaigne embarked on a hundred-day, seven-thousand-mile journey across Russia. Traveling with his fly rod, he began his trek in northwestern Russia on the Solovetsky Islands, a remote archipelago that was the birthplace of Stalin's gulag. He ended half a world away as he fished for steelhead trout on the Kamchatka Peninsula, on the shores of the Pacific.

His tales of visiting these far-flung rivers are memorable, and at heart, Reeling in Russia is far more than a story of an angling journey. It is a humorous and moving account of his adventures in the madhouse that is Russia today, and a striking portrait that highlights the humanity and tribulations of its people.

In the end, the reader is left with the memory of haunted northern landscapes, of vivid sunsets over distant rivers, of the crumbling remains of pre-Revolutionary estates, and a cast of dogged Russians struggling to build a life amid the rubble of the Communist regime.

Fishing for Customers and Reeling Them In
How many times have you asked  "What Do Customers Want?"   • Are you frustrated because you need to increase revenues, and do it NOW? • Are you upset because sometimes advertising appears to work, other times it doesn't, and you can't predict which? • Are you concerned because business is soft and you don't know what to do? • Are you downright angry with media reps who keep promising t0 "get your name out there" but can't seem to get you any results?   By applying common sense "fishing" rules, Chuck McKay claims that you already know half of what you need to successfully market your business - and you can easily learn the other half with the help of this book.   Fishing For Customers  And Reeling Them In is an easy to follow, step-by-step guide that will help you succeed at marketing your business even if you've never written an ad before.  This book will have you saying "WOW!  I can do this!"

Fishing For Customers And Reeling Them In will help you, step by step, to create a more effective marketing program.   You'll learn how to identify your most profitable customers, and how to irresistibly attract them to you much like iron filings are drawn to a magnet.  You'll also learn how to eliminate those customers who waste your time and don't create any profit for your company.

You'll learn how to identify which customers operate in Relational Mode and which operate in Transactional Mode.  All customers operate in one mode or the other.  The things you say to attract one are guaranteed to repel customers who are comfortable operating in the other.

You'll learn the two kinds of advertising - Call To Action and Top-Of-Mind Awareness.  One only works with customers who operate in Relational mode.  The other only works with Transactional customers.  Why you can't do both (See the "No Universal Bait" rule).

You'll learn how your professional reputation is built among your customers, and among people you haven't even met yet.

You'll learn why discounted price is a terrible marketing strategy.  (Is it any wonder that at least one of the major airlines is always in bankruptcy)?

You'll learn why the amount you spend on rent must effect what you spend on advertising.

You'll learn how to effectively use major media and how to negotiate with each.  You'll learn which media outlets to select, and how to create great long-term relationships to your benefit with each.

Maybe most importantly, you'll learn that sometimes it isn't necessary to advertise at all.  And you'll learn how to determine whether that's the case for your business.  Over the next few years, how many tens of thousands of dollars will this skill save you?.

Science and Civilisation in China: Volume 5, Chemistry and Chemical Technology; Part 9, Textile Technology: Spinning and Reeling
This study, the first of two parts which will give a comprehensive account of Chinese textiles and textile technology, deals with the evolution of bast fibre spinning and silk-reeling in the history of China. These operations are the basic techniques in the production of yarn and thread, pre-requisite to weaving, and any study of Chinese textile technology must start with the raw material obtained from fibre plants such as hemp, ramie, jute, cotton, etc, and silk reeled off from cocoons of the domestic silkworm. Here for the first time in a publication outside China, the raw material, and the processing techniques applied to it, are documented in their context of historical evolution, geographical distribution and economic significance in an agrarian society. The time-span covered runs from the neolithic to the nineteenth century. Archaeological and pictoral evidence, the bulk of it hitherto unpublished in the West, is brought together with Chinese textual sources (which are extensively translated and interpreted) to illustrate Chinese achievements in this field. Professor Kuhn's study reveals the way in which Chinese textile-technological inventiveness has influenced textile production in other regions of the world and in medieval Europe. It explains how textile technology reached its high point between the tenth and thirteenth centuries and attempts to indicate the reasons for its subsequent relative decline. The development of the textile industry in Europe was a key factor in the rise of capitalism. In the case of China after Sung times, textile technology and the organisation of textile labour may help indicate why such a development did not take place in China..

The 2007 Import and Export Market for Textile Spinning, Doubling, Twisting, Winding, Weft Winding, and Reeling Machines in Hong Kong
On the demand side, exporters and strategic planners focusing on textile spinning, doubling, twisting, winding, weft winding, and reeling machines in Hong Kong face a number of questions Which countries are supplying textile spinning, doubling, twisting, winding, weft winding, and reeling machines to Hong Kong? How important is Hong Kong compared to others in terms of the entire global and regional market? How much do the imports of textile spinning, doubling, twisting, winding, weft winding, and reeling machines vary from one country of origin to another in Hong Kong? On the supply side, Hong Kong also exports textile spinning, doubling, twisting, winding, weft winding, and reeling machines. Which countries receive the most exports from Hong Kong? How are these exports concentrated across buyers? What is the value of these exports and which countries are the largest buyers? This report was created for strategic planners, international marketing executives and import/export managers who are concerned with the market for textile spinning, doubling, twisting, winding, weft winding, and reeling machines in Hong Kong. With the globalization of this market, managers can no longer be contented with a local view. Nor can managers be contented with out-of-date statistics which appear several years after the fact. I have developed a methodology, based on macroeconomic and trade models, to estimate the market for textile spinning, doubling, twisting, winding, weft winding, and reeling machines for those countries serving Hong Kong via exports, or supplying from Hong Kong via imports. It does so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models. In what follows, Chapter 2 begins by summarizing where Hong Kong fits into the world market for imported and exported textile spinning, doubling, twisting, winding, weft winding, and reeling machines. The total level of imports and exports on a worldwide basis, and those for Hong Kong in particular, is estimated using a model which aggregates across over 150 key country markets and projects these to the current year. From there, each country represents a percent of the world market. This market is served from a number of competitive countries of origin. Based on both demand- and supply-side dynamics, market shares by country of origin are then calculated across each country market destination. These shares lead to a volume of import and export values for each country and are aggregated to regional and world totals. In doing so, we are able to obtain maximum likelihood estimates of both the value of each market and the share that Hong Kong is likely to receive this year. From these figures, rankings are calculated to allow managers to prioritize Hong Kong compared to other major country markets. In this way, all the figures provided in this report are forecasts that can be combined with internal information sources for strategic planning purposes..
