Drinking Coffee Elsewhere
Audie® Award Finalist! A remarkable debut short-story collection by a fresh and captivating new voice in American literature. Z.Z. Packer's first collection of short stories is rich with unexpected turns, indelible images, and penetrating insight that belies someone so young. Her stories plunge us into the worlds of people living on the edge and to the flashpoints that make or break them, that shape their worldviews forever. In The Stranger, a third-grade girl tries to find her place in the microcosm of summer camp in the larger world in 1981 during the height of the Atlanta child murders. The girl's bathroom at camp is the setting for a clash between an all-black and an all-white Brownie troop in Brownies. Two young women prod the boundaries of friendship and love in Drinking Coffee Elsewhere. A highly anticipated debut from an award-winning young writer..

Elsewhere, U.S.A.: How We Got from the Company Man, Family Dinners, and the Affluent Society to the Home Office, BlackBerry Moms, and Economic Anxiety
Over the past three decades, our daily lives have changed slowly but dramatically Boundaries between leisure and work, public space and private space, and home and office have blurred and become permeable. How many of us now work from home, our wireless economy allowing and encouraging us to work 24/7? How many of us talk to our children while scrolling through e-mails on our BlackBerrys? How many of us feel overextended, as we are challenged to play multiple roles–worker, boss, parent, spouse, friend, and client–all in the same instant? Dalton Conley, social scientist and writer provides us with an X-ray view of our new social reality. In Elsewhere, U.S.A., Conley connects our daily experience with occasionally overlooked sociological changes: women’s increasing participation in the labor force; rising economic inequality generating anxiety among successful professionals; the individualism of the modern era–the belief in self-actualization and expression–being replaced by the need to play different roles in the various realms of one’s existence. In this groundbreaking book, Conley offers an essential understanding of how the technological, social, and economic changes that have reshaped our world are also reshaping our individual lives. From the Hardcover edition..

Life Is Elsewhere
The author intially intended to call this noel, The Lyrical Age. The lyrical age, according to Kundera, is youth, and this novel, above all, is an epic of adolescence; an ironic epic that tenderlyerodes scarosanct values: childhood, motherhood, revolution, and even poetry. Jaromil is in fact a poet. His mother made hima poet and accompanies him (figuratively) to his love bed and (literally) to his deathbed. A ridiculous and touching character, horrifying and totally innocent ("innocence with its bloody smile"!), Jaromil is at the same time a true poet. He's no creep, he's Rimbaud. Rimbaud entrapped by the communist revolution, entrapped in a somber farce..

Elsewhere
When Ron runs away, he ends up in Bordertown, a grim city that lies between the real world and the world of faerie, a place where elf and human gangs stalk the streets side by side, and where magic works better than technology. If the city doesn't kill him, it just may teach him what it is to be human. .

Per Kirkeby: Journeys in Painting and Elsewhere
Per Kirkeby may be Copenhagen's best-known artistic export; born in 1938, he is still based in Denmark. Perhaps due to his doctorate in geology, the metamorphosis of nature has always been a key theme for Kirkeby. Early on, he was influenced by American Pop art and Minimalism, and in recent years, he has become involved with the tradition of Nordic Romanticism. It is this blend of the rigor of Minimalism and the emotional charge of Romanticism that gives his recent, abstract works their frisson. Featuring pieces from a private collection in Switzerland, this publication is an in-depth exploration of Kirkeby's works from the early 1980s to the present--with the exclusion of his work from the 70s, which was a transitional period prior to the development of his distinctive language. His paintings appear alongside works on paper, including his rarely-seen travel sketches..
