From the supplier: A manufacturer or merchant donating inventory to a charity whose main purpose is the care of the sick, needy or young children, may take an improved deduction which includes the cost and half the difference between cost and fair market value. The IRS has created an Industry Specialization Paper detailing the qualifications for this improved credit which include the qualification of the charity as an IRC 501(c)(3) body, the specification that the material be for the use of the sick, needy or infants and that the donation appear as such on the appropriate return.
