Diary of a Recovered Bulimic
In 7th or 8th grade I started really worrying about being fat, and wanting to lose weight. I generally would start doing exercises, then stop, not having the discipline to keep at it. At some point I became interested in calories and started counting them. I drove everyone crazy (friends at school) asking them if I was fat. Over and over again I would ask. One friend finally got fed up and said, “Yes, you’re fat.” And I interpreted it that he’d finally told the truth. When Martha was eleven years old, her parents’ divorce devastated her. Shortly thereafter, Martha began her descent into an eating disorder that would slowly overtake her self-confidence and eventually her entire life. Martha details her journey from the innocence of adolescence and the transition into womanhood in this poignant diary of her thirteen-year battle with bulimia. With hopes of inspiring bulimics to consider change and to encourage recovery, Martha offers insight into the illness as she shares her often heartbreaking experiences and honest reflections. You will learn how the disease begins, delve into the emotional ups and downs, and witness Martha’s steps toward lasting recovery. You too can start over. It’s time to begin helping yourself or someone you love find the path to peace and healing..

THE ANOREXIC BULIMIC SURVIVAL GUIDE as written and lived by Shash (The Anorexic Bulimic Survival Guide)
JUST RELEASED! THE ANOREXIC BULIMIC SURVIVAL GUIDE is a colorful and bold biographical guide and an absolute must read for anyone suffering from an Eating Disorder. Appropriate for all ages! Written by Shash,a 54 year old woman with 19 years of abstinence from anorexia-bulimia this guide is real and wise with straight talk that offers 21 tools for recovery and speaks with truth, compassion, hope, dignity, courage and understanding for anyone suffering with anorexia bulimia. An Excerpt From The Anorexic Bulimic Survival Guide as Written and Lived By Shash: Introduction I am now in my mid-fifties and have been abstinent from bulimia for the past 19 years. I can’t say abstinent from anorexia because I still “diet” on occasion, food restrict if my clothes feel too tight or I have pigged out the day (or days) before or I am not in a good emotional place. I am not only surviving ~ sometimes thriving ~ but certainly living with anorexia and bulimia and it is still a day-to-day challenge. It is my belief this challenge will be lifelong. It does get easier, but for me, the addictive thoughts and urges have not completely gone away. My goal is to share my personal “SURVIVAL GUIDE”, things that have worked for me for almost two decades, and hopefully, you will be able to glean something for yourself to help on your road to recovery and personal abstinence. These are only suggestions that have been tried and tested to the “nth” degree by me. This guide is not going to be too long because I don’t have the attention span for long drawn-out stuff. I always wind up drifting off to think aboutwhen and what I want to eat next. .

Analysis of bulimic symptomatology across age and geographic locations [An article from: Eating Behaviors]
This digital document is a journal article from Eating Behaviors, published by Elsevier in 2007. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser. Description: The purpose of this study was two-fold: a) to investigate the relationship between age and bulimic symptoms among a sample of women with a broad age range; and b) to investigate the relationship between geographic location within the United States and bulimic symptoms. The sample consisted of 1807 female health professionals from six different states (NC, VA, OH, LA, TN, and MO). Analyses revealed that there were no differences between the age groups on bulimic symptoms. There were differences across geographic locations on bulimic symptoms, such that the South Atlantic (NC, VA) states reported the most bulimic symptoms. Findings suggest that age may not serve as a protective factor against bulimic symptoms as some previous studies have suggested. These findings also provide further evidence on the influence of environment on bulimic symptoms among a sample of women. .

The Skinny: Adventures of America's First Bulimic
Funny! Sexy! Moving! She thought she was the first one since ancient Rome. Her mother wished she could do it, too. Her doctor called it "a great weight control technique." In repressive 40's and 50's small-town America, no one knew of "eating disorders," but everyone yearned to be "skinny." Struggling with a spider-web of parental and social animosity up to and including abuse, Rowena Gay Wine is torn between a thirst for all of life's pleasures and her gut-wrenching secret. She survives -- even thrives -- with imagination, determination, and humor. Here is a novel that runs the gamut of timeless human experience, from terror to tickling, from deep love to shallow sex, from "baby whispering" to an intervention by angels that keeps Rowie miraculously alive, and much more in between, even including a car chase! Along the way, Rowie's self-awareness, personal insights, and creative courage open the floodgates for a whole generation of women to escape from limitations and doubt..
