Valkyrie: An Insider's Account of the Plot to Kill Hitler
When on July 20, 1944, a bomb—boldly placed inside Hitler’s headquarters by Colonel Count Claus von Stauffenberg— exploded without killing the Führer, the subsequent coup d’état against the Third Reich collapsed. The conspirators were summarily shot or condemned in show trials and sadistically hanged. One of the few survivors of the conspiracy was Hans Bernd Gisevius, who had used his positions in the Gestapo and the Abwehr (military intelligence) to further the anti-Nazi plot. Valkyrie, an abridgment of Gisevius’s classic insider’s account To the Bitter End, is an intimate memoir as riveting as it is exceptional. .

Secret Germany: Stauffenberg and the True Story of Operation Valkyrie
The story of the hero behind the attempt to kill Hitler, the subject of Valkyrie, starring Tom Cruise, set for June 2008 release By July of 1944, the Third Reich's days were numbered Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, a general staff insider with open eyes (and access to the Führer), was convinced that assassinating Hitler was the only way to prevent the destruction of the Fatherland and the deaths of millions. On July 20, he hid a bomb-stuffed briefcase at a high-level meeting. The explosion tore through the room, but a table leg spared Hitler from the blast. The result was a witch hunt, a wave of executions, and a further pointless year of war. Michael Baigent and Richard Leigh deliver an exhilarating and definitive portrait of the anti-Nazi movement (called "Secret Germany") that almost killed Hitler. Secret Germany is the story of "World War II's boldest plot-that-failed" ( Time), a coup that was a moral and spiritual necessity. 36 b/w photographs..

COUNTDOWN TO VALKYRIE: THE JULY PLOT TO ASSASSINATE HITLER
Although there were more than 40 plots to assassinate Adolf Hitler, none came closer to success than the July Plot of 1944. The attempt was masterminded by Count von Stauffenberg, a member of the German General Staff, who had been rushed back from Africa after losing his left eye and right hand. For his injuries, he had been decorated as a war hero. Never a supporter of Nazi ideology, he was increasingly attracted by the approaches of the German resistance movement. After a attempt to assassinate Hitler in November 1943 failed, Stauffenberg developed a new plot to kill him at the Wolf's Lair Headquarters on 20th July 1944. Besides the Fuhrer's assassination, Stauffenberg organized plans to take over command of the Germany forces and sue for peace with the Allies. The attempt ultimately failed. Only one bomb was detonated and Hitler was only injured: his life was probably saved because the bomb, hidden in Stauffenberg's suitcase, had been placed behind a heavy table leg which reduced the impact of the black. In remarkable detail, with photographs, explanatory maps and diagrams, author Nigel Jones dissects the lead up to the attempt, the events of the day in minute-by-minute detail, and the aftermath in which the conspirators were hunted down. No other work on the July Plot contains such accessible detail and full explanation of this attempt on Hitler's life. In addition to a forensic analysis of the day, the book includes short biographies of the key characters involved, the first-person recollections of witnesses, and a 'what if' section explaining the likely outcome of a successful assassination. REVIEWS "A compelling and exciting account packed with vivid detail. A superb read." James Holland "An engrossing narrative which is a testament to the courage of a few genuine German heroes."Joe Craig, Executive Editor, US Military History Book Club "A thrilling account of the incredible assassination conspiracy. Nigel Jones provides an exciting, informative and ground-breaking history"-Tim Newark, Editor, Military Illustrated "A detailed and lively account of the plot to assassinate Hitler in 1944"Professor Gary Sheffield, University of Birmingham "An engaging history by a talented and accomplished writer"Roger Moorhouse author of Killing Hitler.

An Obsolete Honor: A Story of the German Resistance to Hitler
In 1938, all of Germany seems to be captivated by the pied piper from Austria, Adolf Hitler. However, Philip Baron von Feldburg is a young German officer deeply concerned about the direction Germany is going and is distressed by the policies of the Nazi government. While his younger brother is thrilled to be flying the Luftwaffe's latest fighter, his sister marries a self-made man with good Nazi connections and a bright future. As one Nazi victory follows another, Philip feels increasingly isolated until he meets Alexandra Mollwitz, an attractive secretary working at General Staff headquarters. Philip finds love and a kindred spirit. Through her he meets a group of senior officers working to overthrow the Nazi regime using the Valkyrie Plot. A work of historical fiction, An Obsolete Honor personalizes a major event in world history. The story demonstrates how immersed the Nazi regime became in both the public and political world and in the personal lives of the German people, who were often forced to make decisions not aligned with their personal beliefs. An Obsolete Honor helps us understand what it was like to live and work in Germany during those tragic times. .

Valkyrie: North American's Mach 3 Superbomber (Specialty Press)
The Valkyrie is an icon of modern aviation, which is curious considering that only two were built and they flew just 164 times. Like the maiden of Norse mythology that it was named for, the Valkyrie awed those around it. Beautiful in form, and almost unbelievable in function, the B-70 would have been the ultimate incarnation of Curtis LeMay s vision of a strategic bomber. The half-million pound aircraft was capable of flying over 2,000 miles per hour in excess of 80,000 feet, and doing it for hours at a time. Fantastic as the Valkyrie appeared, it was not to be. The political and fiscal climate that existed during the 1960s strangled then killed the aircraft almost before it was born. This is the story of the largest Mach 3 aircraft ever flown the North American Aviation XB-70A Valkyrie. Dennis R. Jenkins and Tony R. Landis have conducted extensive research in military, NASA, and company archives to find previously uncovered aspects of this fascinating program. Includes descriptions of the proposed bombing and navigation systems, defensive armament, electronic countermeasures, and early attempts at stealth technology. Accompanied by over 250 photos and dozens of illustrations, this in-depth history covers the entire B-70 program, not just the two aircraft that ultimately flew..
