The Volatility Edge in Options Trading: New Technical Strategies for Investing in Unstable Markets
Jeff's analysis is unique, at least among academic derivatives textbooks I would definitely use this material in my derivatives class, as I believe students would benefit from analyzing the many dimensions of Jeff's trading strategies. I especially found the material on trading the earnings cycle and discussion of how to insure against price jumps at known events very worthwhile.'.

Stabilizing an Unstable Economy

Mr. Minsky long argued markets were crisis prone. His 'moment' has arrived -The Wall Street Journal

. .

In his seminal work, Minsky presents his groundbreaking financial theory of investment, one that is startlingly relevant today. He explains why the American economy has experienced periods of debilitating inflation, rising unemployment, and marked slowdowns-and why the economy is now undergoing a credit crisis that he foresaw. Stabilizing an Unstable Economy covers:

.
    .
  • The natural inclination of complex, capitalist economies toward instability.
  • Booms and busts as unavoidable results of high-risk lending practices .
  • Speculative finance and its effect on investment and asset prices .
  • Government's role in bolstering consumption during times of high unemployment.
  • The need to increase Federal Reserve oversight of banks.
. .

Henry Kaufman, president, Henry Kaufman And Company, Inc., places Minsky's prescient ideas in the context of today's financial markets and institutions in a fascinating new preface. Two of Minsky's colleagues, Dimitri B. Papadimitriou, Ph.D. and president, The Levy Economics Institute of Bard College, and L. Randall Wray, Ph.D. and a senior scholar at the Institute, also weigh in on Minsky's present relevance in today's economic scene in a new introduction.

. .

A surge of interest in and respect for Hyman Minsky's ideas pervades Wall Street, as top economic thinkers and financial writers have started using the phrase Minsky moment to describe America's turbulent economy. There has never been a more appropriate time to read this classic of economic theory.

Yoga for the Core: Finding Stability in an Unstable Environment
The core itself is the root of our being, the center of our balance, and in a healthy body is also the root of our movements Many of us know how to train the outer core but are disconnected from our inner core. By learning how to reconnect to your inner core, you can prevent/recover from injuries, improve your posture, enhance athletic performance and create more efficient movement patterns. In this book you will learn: how to cultivate your core; the difference between the inner and outer core; how to develop strength and ease in both; how to improve pelvic stability; the importance of diaphragmatic movement to stability of the core; the difference between pilates and yoga breathing; the connection between poor core stability and injury; how to recover from injury by improving core stability; practices that will progressively stabilize and strengthen your core. Suzette is a yoga therapist, pilates instructor, and kinesiologist. She has an extensive background in personal training, and is a trainer of trainers. Her experience has shown that people often work too hard at core stability, and instead create rigidity. Rather than cultivating suppleness they create hardness. These two things, rigidity and hardness, prevent you from tapping into the true wisdom of your body..

Ethnography in Unstable Places: Everyday Lives in Contexts of Dramatic Political Change
Ethnography in Unstable Places is a collection of ethnographic accounts of everyday situations in places undergoing dramatic political transformation. Offering vivid case studies that range from the Middle East and Africa to Europe, Russia, and Southeast Asia, the contributing anthropologists narrate particular circumstances of social and political transformation—in contexts of colonialism, war and its aftermath, social movements, and post–Cold War climates—from the standpoints of ordinary people caught up in and having to cope with the collapse or reconfiguration of the states in which they live.
Using grounded ethnographic detail to explore the challenges to the anthropological imagination that are posed by modern uncertainties, the contributors confront the ambiguities and paradoxes that exist across the spectrum of human cultures and geographies. The collection is framed by introductory and concluding chapters that highlight different dimensions of the book’s interrelated themes—agency and ethnographic reflexivity, identity and ethics, and the inseparability of political economy and interpretivism.
Ethnography in Unstable Places will interest students and specialists in social anthropology, sociology, political science, international relations, and cultural studies.

The ECG in Acute Myocardial Infarction and Unstable Angina (Developments in Cardiovascular Medicine)

Every time a patient presents with acute chest pain, the challenge is to make, as soon as possible, the correct diagnosis of presence, size, site and severity of myocardial ischemia. The electrocardiogram is the only tool able to do so immediately, in a non-invasive way and at low cost. Recently, new information has become available allowing us to recognize where in the coronary artery the culprit lesion is located and thereby estimate the size of the area of the heart which is jeopardized. This is of obvious importance in determining the aggressiveness of our therapy. Will we select a thrombus dissolving drug or opt for an invasive coronary intervention?

In myocardial ischemia rhythm and conduction disturbances are often present. Again, proper ECG interpretation under these circumstances is essential for management of the patient and future risk assessment.

When reperfusion of the acutely ischemic area is attempted by thrombolytic therapy or a percutaneous coronary intervention the ECG is important to inform us about the result.

Not only in acute myocardial infarction but also in unstable angina the size, site and severity of cardiac ischemia is of great importance. Again that information can be provided by the electrocardiogram.

All this new information is thoroughly discussed by members of the internationally recognized Maastricht school of electrocardiography.
The book is a must for any healthcare professional engaged in the management of the patient with acute chest pain.
